Surprisingly, miniature book production in the 20th century owes a large debt of gratitude to Communism. State sponsorship allowed miniature books to be published that otherwise would not have been commercially viable, and the tiny size of such books made them ideal for propagating an official state ideology to the masses. This accounts for the pre-eminence of Hungary as one of the past century's most prolific sponsors of miniature books...
